I have an Acer Aspire 5680 laptop with the above drive in it. It will not read or write DVD's but will read/write CD's
That is not a driver problem, but a hardware issue. Your optical drive actually has 2 lasers (different wavelengths). One for CD and one for DVD (I am keeping this very simple) reading/writing.
It appears that your DVD laser is defective or dirty. Try running a CD/DVD cleaner disk through your drive (you can get at any electronics store, like Radio Shack, or in the electronics department of Walmart or Target). You can also dislodge dust/hair/etc with a can of compressed air.
