My $2000 Fire Wire audio interface (Presonus StudioLive 24,4.2 mixer) does not work on newly built Kaby Lake system. We have tried everything. The system recognizes the hardware, the driver gets installed but no connection to the audio interface. The tech support says- this is because Microsoft started to inforce driver signing this January and the drivers that were installed on Windows 8 upgraded to Windows 10 will still work but would not install on the new Windows 10. It is devastating because I don't have another 2K to spend to replace it. They signed all drivers from the model next to my, but my driver is still not signed. It only supposed to be an issue when Secure Boot enabled, but my Secure Boot is disabled. Why do I still have problem and is there any work around? Thank you.

Thats sucks. I would ask him why the forum isn't accepting your serial number so you can post to the forum because maybe someone on the forum has encountered this problem and can share the solution.

This is not the forum, it is product registration. I need to send them picture and proof of purchase and I dont have time right now.

I spoke with them today. They still thinking- it is driver signing issue, even though I told them that it WAS asking for signed driver until I set it to Other OS in BIOS. But the tech support person said- it may still cause it even though it almost looks like no error. And that they will be releasing signed driver eventually- nobody knows when. But if it is NOT driver, it may be bandwidth of PCIE card and motherboard not being able to handle all channels because of some reason- he says if on Mac, it would still play t meast few channels out of 24, on Windows, it would not play at all.

I have this Marvel SATA card in PCIE X4. May be it causes conflict.

I have 2 options: wait for signed driver to rule out issue with Windows or install 1115 version of OS as planned and see what would happen. Also I am tired of installing-reinstalling. Thank you.

Hello... I caught your post in the cakewalk forum... Yes there seems to be more "secure" conditions imposed on the Firewire 1394 connections... it is a possible remote access into your OS.

Also Firewire was a typical Apple interface and Microsoft promoted USB... Personus also could be dropping the ball too... As for me I have two dedicated computers with Personus external hardware and WIN 7 for them... Firewire works great, and rock solid this way. But directions change with OS and hardware makers... and you will see/hear 'Firewire is dead" ...I hope you can get the thunderbolt to Firewire wire adaptor to work.

Typically you want to have a "Texas instrument" firewire chip on your Firewire card... they are the standard for compatibility/use with an ASIO device. If you want to post a webpage for your card I will take a closer look at it for you. B /

I typically just use the Realtek output for any of my media playback or non Cakewalk apps... I just have to flip a input on a receiver between DVD and CD to do this.

I Enjoyed your tune/work on SoundCloud... very good energy and vocal performance... you have a lot of "mud" happening between your bass drum and synth bass... drop off some of that low freq on the bass drum first (high pass or invert your signals?)... you won't lose any of that punch when you do... and your Vocals will come to the front a little more... Very well done and interesting club tune B )

Thank you for your reply. This is the SIIG card I use. It is TI. I have the same make and model on my old computer. The old card AND the new card BOTH work on the old computer and BOTH does not work on the new computer.

If you read through the thread, we did try to set BIOS for Secure Boot and for "Other OS" option- this supposed to be no secure boot. With secure boot option, it asks for Presonus driver to be signed and blocks it. When set to Other OS, it does not ask anything. The mixer communicates with computer, it even updated the firmware on the Presonus, but the audio does not go through.

Yeah, thank you for the nice words about my music. I had many songs there but took them down because we ready to release a new album. I mix in headphones, so I dont hear the bass until I play it in the car. For newer songs, I put some heavy EQ curve, cut down from 150k and below. It helps.

I need to figure out how the Thunderbolt 3 converts to Thunderbolt 2 and if there is adopter for TB to FW and try that option. But I have a feeling- something else is wrong. Presonus tech support said- they will update the legacy drivers one day but it been in January, now is May. I think they want to force us to buy new mixers and it is bad business as my mixer is 2013, and I paid over 2k for it.

Hello... Yes... the card states Ti chipset... I see they put a sticker on the chip in public photos B /

Well... between Now and 2013 a lot of new technology and designs in computer equipment have and are changing... your intentions are GOOD in wanting to upgrade to the latest or best... But at this time you personus would be best used with the technology of 2013 and Not WIN10. Dedicate a older MB/CPU and OS to your personus equipment and you will make more music and have less complaints B )

I have no experience with thunderbolt as I use Older Low cost PCI 1394 cards in intel Q77 MB's with i7 3770 CPU and Win7... these systems are Rock solid for the personus Firewire devices I have install to them. "if it's not broken don't try and fix it" applies here.

What I've read is most people ran into "dead Ends" with trying to get upgrade ability, adaptors, with their Firewire device, and thus moved on with current USB2 audio devices with WIN10 drivers. Firewire users are the <1% and attention to/for support for this device will remain a very low/non-existent priority in future equipment and OS's.

You have a fine music making DAW and a great communications interface (1394a) that will out perform a USB connection in speed... you just have to match the right Older MB/CPU and OS with it. GL B )

All of the Beautiful bended metal tubes you see on a Kawasaki ATV, Mule, etc... are made using i386's Dos5/6 or Win3.1... these expensive machines were bought together as a "system"... They Run at times 24/7, and are maintained as a "system". You need to get the Older hardware and software to maintain your "Personus DAW System" as it was intended/designed for... if you are trying to "Re-invent the Wheel" with these modern MB's and OS's... you will find yourself raging, broke or not taking the time too making the Music you want/need. Hello... I've been following Cakewalk forum for along time and see new posts from you from time to time...

OK... well you should have two pieces of Hardware in your device manager after a proper install... lets walk through it.

1) First look at your Device Manager... IEEE 1394 bus host controllers-Texas instrument 1394 yada yada yada... Click on it... do you see "this device is working properly" under the general TAB in the Window pane... does your Device manager show this?

2) The next step is to run the Personus "Universal Control" software/app... your manual/PDF will explain this... But basically the first time you run the APP it will want to "initialize" and check for a "Firmware Update" for the unit...

2b) Attach your Firewire cable between the card and unit... power it up.

2c) After you start the APP... If you get a "Mixer Display" close that window... you should have another windows left... this will be your Driver and Hardware configuration window...

2d) click on the settings pull down tab... and have the APP check for "firmware" ...what happens? B /

I have the FW TI 1394 yada yada. I also tried the legacy driver, Presonus swears that Legacy driver is not needed. And yes, I have Presonus StudioLive listed under Audio devices.

This is what Presonus told me to do:

Disconnect the SL 24.4.2 mixer from your computer.
> Right click your Start menu and select "System".
> Click "Advanced System Setting" to the left.
> Click Environment Variables button.
> Click the New button for the top section on this window.
> For "Variable Name:" type this exactly.
devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
> For "Variable Value:" enter a single number " 1 ".
> Click OK and couple times and then open the Device Manger.
> Click the View menu and check "Show Hidden Devices".
> Right click and Uninstall any "FireStudio", "PreSonus", and or "Unknown Device" you see listed under any category.
> Restart your computer. Then reinstall the driver

This is what I replied. Sorry I have no time to edit it- just copying the reply.
This is NOT IT.  I checked for the hidden devices. I have under "Other devices" Generic Monitor and Marvel Console. I do not know what the Generic Monitor is, but I have 4 monitors connected to this computer, so can be anything. The Marvel console is Startech PCIe x4 SATA adapter to connect extra SATA drives. I don't have any extra drives connected there right now but I did test it in the past and was able to connect the hard drive to it, so it is working. I installed the Startech driver but it still shown under Other devices, but I doubt it related to Presonus issue (unless it interferes with FW card, but I am pretty sure- I tested the FW card without SATA controller at some point).
I reinstalled the Universal Control again after uninstalled it and deleted its folders and dump file.  Without changing to Legacy FW driver, it does not open. It says the driver did not install correctly. BUT:
The instruction you provided on how to manually install the UC driver only applicable if the Presonus shows under "Other Devices" with (!) mark to it. This was the case with the old driver. With this driver, the Presonus is listed under the Audio Devices, where it should be listed, which means- the driver got installed correctly. If I right click on it any way and select to Update Driver, for the driver location, C:\Program Files\PreSonus\UniversalControl is already selected and when I click next, it says, "Windows determined that the best driver is already installed...". So not much I can do there.
I did not install Studio One, because... it is not a full version and I don't like to install stuff I will not be using- it creates registry conflicts. But I did attempt to set up Free Standing software synths such as Kontakt and Tone2 Saurus and I could not get any sound out of them. The Presonus was listed and selectable, but no sound.
My hardware Mixer is set to receive FireWire on 2nd track (26-26). I do not know how to set it to receive to track 1-2, this is why I can not confirm that there is no sound in Windows.  I have 2 FireWire buttons on over the Sub2 and Sub4 and Main button is on.  The Windows set to output to Presonus Speakers, but it would likely go to Ch 1-2- I once made it work on 1-2 with my old computer and then had hard time to reset it back to 25-26.  But I don't have good feeling about any of this. I like to know what causing this issue. Even if it is my hardware issue- I would like to know what exactly causing it. Can you recommend exact model of FW card that proven to work with Windows 10 and Kaby lake processors and Original 24.4.2 mixers? The model I have is on the compatability list and it works on my old computer but who knows. Thank you.
