Good day everyone! I am experiencing this DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD on my Acer Nitro 5 2018 for some unknown reason. This BSOD appears when I leave my laptop idle for about 10 mins or so. This occurs even if my system has programs open or if I leave it for a while with no running backgrounds, fresh from an open/restart. I even reinstalled my gpus (both nvidia and intel) as it is one of the fix that I saw, but it did not work. I tried running "sfc /scannow" in command prompt and windows powershell but it did not detect any corrupted file. I even looked for windows updates and installed the ones that are detected and now it is all newly updated, but no luck with that either. My laptop sometimes stutters as well, and when I click on the start button, it does not respond. No response in the shortcut button for task manager too.

When this problem occurs, I have to force restart as well. Even when it is at 100% when trying to restart during BSOD, it gets stuck. Even when waiting about 10 or more minutes, nothing happens.

Do note that I have undervolted my laptop to about 0.16 V. Now, this occurs even if I lower my undervolt values or close my throttlestop. Also, my temps are fluctuating again to 90+ even when I just repasted with Arctic Mx4 about a month ago. Any clues about this?? I hope someone can help me 🙂...

Laptop specs:
i5 8300h
GTX 1050/Intel UHD 630
12 GB RAM
512GB SSD
1TB HDD

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

  • Open Windows File Explorer
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
  • Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
  • Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  • Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  • Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  • Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

Here you go, let me know if you can't open the link...

I'm not sure what's up with that desktop ini, I did not copy it intentionally and it's always there whenever I compress the files.

i will ask a friend to convert them, he is likely asleep now.
Thanks a lot!! I'm in no rush, i just want to get this over with. Because I feel like I probably do not need to reinstall windows 10, and not right now at least since I have a lot of school stuff and can't back up cause I do not have an external hdd.

Comment: 2 or more types of RAM are installed. This is common on laptops.

Comment: The overclocking driver "RTCore64.sys" was found on your system. (MSI Afterburner)

Comment: The one thing many people don't understand is that a reinstall of Windows may or may not help with BSODs. If the issue is a bad driver, one that's downloaded from Microsoft or anywhere else, and the same driver is reinstalled after Windows is reinstalled, you'll have the same issue. If the issue is hardware, a reinstall obviously won't help.

The nvlddmkm.sys file is a NVIDIA graphics card driver. There are a few things you can do to fix this problem. First off, try a full uninstall using DDU in Safe Mode then re-install the driver (more information). Or try getting the latest version of the driver. Or try one of the 3 most recent drivers released by NVIDIA. Drivers can be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/ or you can allow Windows Update to download the driver for you, which might be a older/better version.

Possible support page: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7572?b=1
You have the latest BIOS already installed, version 1.28.

This information can be used by others to help you. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

update: i just repasted again with Arctic Mx4, and the temps were low again when i tried to ran a benchmark with throttlestop. no bsods yet tho. i did try to reinstall drivers with ddu but not in safe mode. i'll try it again with safe mode this time. thanks for the additional info about the problem!

most of the driver power state errors are Nvidia drivers.
4 out of 5 errors have this in the dump text - km:0x9f_3_nvlddmkm_image_pci.sys
Mar 25 2021nvlddmkm.sysNvidia Graphics Card driver http://www.nvidia.com/
Some of the parts of the nvidia installer look old
Mar 14 2019nvvad64v.sysNvidia Virtual Audio driver http://www.nvidia.com/
Nov 29 2019NvModuleTracker.sysNVIDIA Module Tracker driver
Jan 10 2020nvvhci.sysNvidia Virtual USB Host Controller driver http://www.nvidia.com/
it might be okay, I can't compare against mine as all my drivers don't show any dates on them.
ddu works better in safe mode as it can remove drivers that would be in operation in normal mode

5th error not so obvious but i could guess its nvidia given rest are.

so in other words, I should just reinstall drivers with ddu and in safe mode right?? I guess I'll do that. thanks a lot for the help!!

I'll try to wait for about a week with no bsods before I could update that it truly works. I hope you are all still able to help me if any problem occurs. 🙂

Yeah, sure. I never assume BSOD are gone within a day of fixing them :)
Hey there! I just reinstalled drivers starting from my last reply with safe mode on. It did work and I have not experienced any BSOD, although I did experience freezing but I suspect it's due to ThrottleStop. Maybe I did undervolt too much or something like that, but it happened only a few times.

However, I just experienced it again just right now. Another BSOD with the same code, but this time it restarted fast compared from before that it was stuck at the BSOD. I was copying music from my laptop to my cellphone while watching aYouTube video and then it occurred again. Can you, maybe, do another scanning of the BSOD?? There was an NVIDIA update that I haven't downloaded yet, I'm not sure if it has a correlation though. If that's the case, I'll just reinstall drivers again in safe mode right?

PRIMARY_PROBLEM_CLASS: 0x9F_3_nvlddmkm_IMAGE_pci.sys
pci.sys - peripherals control interface. not thats its cause, more showing as victim.
Nvidia is cause again

sure is same code again

same drivers again, try running ddu again in safe mode but install the old Nvidia drivers from the Acer website and see if it happens again
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/AU/content/support-product/7572?b=1 its labelled VGA driver

I'll try to do that later on, thanks for the advice!! Although, should I update it immediately after I installed from the official Acer site? Because I know that that driver is outdated, like year 2018 or so.. or should I not update after that??

The idea of getting the Acer driver is to use that version, updating using Geforce experience cancels out the experiment to see if it is caused by latest Nvidia drivers.
so far, no bsod issues. although, my main concern now is that whenever I watch YouTube videos, it gets a little bit of stuttering at times. when I play rainbow six siege, it also says that I have unsupported graphics card/not updated. but it does not affect the gameplay since it can still run smoothly.

should I continue this as it is and not update yet? I have my suspicion that the updated nvidia drivers are causing the bsod as well. but for the browser stuttering, what seems to be the possible solution??

i wouldn't update it unless you BSOD. I think stutters are easier to live with than bsod. At least they would be for me. I can't actually say, its been... 6 years since I had a bsod, and it was self inflicted. I don't do enough on my pc to make it break now.

Which browser?

Yeah, that makes much more sense. I guess I'll try to sort it out. I use Brave browser more than Google Chrome.

Anyway I'll try one more week or two and hopefully this older driver is the answer I'm looking for. thanks a lot for the support and tips!!

I'm having the same issue as you, I think it's totally happening because of Throttle stop.

I had two profiles on TS, one performance and one battery, the battery profile has a little more undervolting than the performance profile.

Whenever I set the profile to battery, the screen starts freezing up and then after a few minutes I end up getting BSOD. Then when I boot back in to the system and view the event logs in eventvwr, there are a bunch of errors and all of them are nvlddmk errors.
