DriverHeaven looks at IQ effects of FarCry P-v1.2

DriverHeaven does a quick look at the speed increases of SM2.0/3.0 and the new IQ levels.

The conclusion is pretty much what we said over the past few days; <i><b>"Therefore, if you’ve got a 6800 series card don’t hesitate to install the patch, it will greatly improve your Farcry experience. If you’re a Radeon X800 user keep well away and stick with patch 1.1."</i></b>

It's also a fair question they ask as to; how Crytek/Ubi could allow a patch with such a huge negative hit to a series of cards that were performing well before the patch to get through?

I suspect that the SM3.0 implementation in the engine might introduce some redesign of other graphic stuff. And since this patch was mostly a nVidia affair, they probably don't bother to optimize the ATI performance.

It would be interesting to see if there is some trick behind this patch.

Or maybe, ATI had a "app detection" routine that don't work anymore with patch 1.2... This sounds like a conspiracy!

It's tricky to use words like <b><font color=green>AMD</font color=green></b> or <b><font color=blue>Intel</font color=blue></b> in a signature some users could think your are biased.
