my hard drive is recognised as being plugged in but can not access anything on hard drive at all
i have run the general trouble shooters but they say the device is running correctly ????
please can somebody help me as have tried everything i can think of.
i have a lot ofd very important information on this drive and have to access it asap.

First try to see if it happens on another PC as well. At this point, see if in disk management you can access the HDD. See what type of filesystem it is and if it is healthy or not. If you can access the data from another PC, make sure you go ahead and do a backup before anything else.
Then:
I would take the HDD out of the enclosure and use another external USB enclosure to try to access it. If it works, it is a problem with the targa controller, not the HDD itself. If not, it is likely the HDD is the culprit. Then you can try to take it to someone that has a linux PC and see if it can be mounted there and data can be retrieved.
