I went to fry's electronics today and bought myself a pre-owned graphics card since my old one just died after 6 years of hardcore use.

The one that I bought was the "MSI Geforce GTX 1050 Ti" (gaming x 4gb) if that part matters.

I'm running windows 8.1 pro

When i tried to put the CD in to install the drivers the CD never booted. So I tried from the folder and it still didn't boot. From there I just took the CD out and forgot it.

Next I went to MSI's website and looked for the card and found drivers for win7/8/10 32 and 64.
I downloaded multiple ones because there are apparently different types of 1050 Ti.

List of ones I downloaded from the MSI site: win8-32 win8-64 win7-64....and for the two win8 I downloaded the gaming x version and the normal (mine is gaming x). none of those worked.

So, I decided the best idea would be go to Nvidia's website and see there. The exact same thing and yet again with like 6 more downloads....nothing worked.

Not working as in - Nvidia install: an unknown error has occurred.

So I had one last work around in mind. I went to dm and I rolled back the drivers, then after that finished from there I did update driver 3 times, took it twice to get it updated to 10/27/17, and well I may 'work' as updated but its not fully updated. Also another problem since the downloaded and CD didn't work I don't have the "Gaming App" the program where you can change the color or the speeds or see details and all that...forget the name of it right now.

Sounds like it's time to start saving for a new build, man. Either that or a format and a fresh OS install with W10. I, too, upgraded from W8 OEM to W10 and haven't had any problems (thankfully) outside of a BIOS flash due to picking up a 1080 a while back and pairing it to my FX 8350 on a 990FX mobo. I had XP on this drive at one point and bought a backup drive and that's where all the old data sits. Once I built this new rig (circa 2012), I bought a new HDD and W8.

There's no easy solution for you that doesn't involve a fresh install, a format and install, or a rebuild... at least in my opinion. Look at it this way: at least you got it running despite the drivers being a little bit older. Given all you've been through, that's an...
Sorry to hear about your troubles, man. The first place I would have suggested you try is Nvidia's site but you've done that and at least got it somewhat up to speed. Congrats to that at least. As for the MSI Gaming App, I suspect that should be available on their site. Is it that important to you or is this a want vs need issue?

While I know it's probably not what you're interested in hearing, it may be time to move beyond W8.1

Well with the win8 thing...that's a different problem from a long time ago. I bought win8 years ago and then eventually win10 had that free update to it, but I wasn't able to upgrade. apparently my cd-key was wrong or didn't have one or something. I bought the downloadable win8 from microsoft.com. I've literally had this hdd since XP, upgraded it to vista then 7 then 8 then problems everywhere. So pretty much at that point I gave up. I tried for so many hours/days trying to get the upgrade but then also my computer just feels like not completing bios like every 5th time the computer is turned on. That's why I'm just like, problems will constantly happen all because the world doesn't have XP anymore......thanks for trying though
