Dual Boot Problems

Just installed Windows 7 64 bit yesterday. I'm dual booting with Windows XP 32 bit. After installing Win7, the only driver I could find for my wireless network adapter was one for Vista 64 bit. I tried it and it worked.....until I logged onto Windows XP. The network adapter was not working. I think it says error 10 device cannot start or something close. It's a USB adapter so I removed it and put it in again, it worked fine in XP, but then will not work in Win7 (same error) until I do the same thing.

The device is a D-Link DWL-G132 USB wireless adapter. Can't get on the internet without it since the router is too far. It's kinda annoying to have this problem everytime I switch OSes. Not sure if it's a problem with the 64 bit and 32 bit drivers. Drivers seem to work fine until I switch. The adapter was discontinued by D-Link. Hope I don't have to buy a new adapter. Found the driver through the Vista compatibility site. Nothing on the Win7 compatibility site for it yet. Any other information I need to provide?

Please help. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need a new adapter?

I think this is simply the case of the drivers you are using. The operating systems are completely independent of each other in terms of what device drivers are being loaded into each, therefore they should not be disabling the device in the other environment.

I would look at purchasing a new adapter if no one else here on the forums can provide an alternate solution.

That's what I was thinking, The_Prophecy. However it appears to be the case that one is affecting the other. Not only are they on two separate partitions but two separate hard drives. The correct driver for each appears in the device manager, just that when it is working in one OS, it fails to start in the other. Weird, huh?

I'm hoping to avoid having to make unnecessary purchases right now. I know they're not that expensive, but things add up.
