Hello Can you help me regarding my RAM because Im wondering whats best for my PC.. As of now i have a kingston hyperX 2666mhz and i think its a single channel RAM it has CAS latency of 16..and my processor is Ryzen 3 2200g.. im wondering if? can i add another RAM which is a single channel for it to be 16gb or should i switch for a dual channel? TY

Two sticks working together is called dual channel. All sticks are single channel by them selves.

Yes dual channel is faster. Mixing ram may not work even if same specs but same specs does help your chances of success. Would be ideal to buy as a kit of two though, kits of ram are tested for assurance.

If it is the exact same model, then most likely it will run in dual channel, but there is no guarantee. Also, you should place the second stick in the right slot. If your motherboard has only 2 slots, then it's obvious. On a 4 slot motherboard though, you should place it not in the immediate near slot, but in the next one. Let me simplify: the slots should be colored alternating (for example Black, White, Black, White). For dual channel both modules should be on either white or black but not one on white and one on black.

What does 1x8 2x4 mean? As in three sticks??

What motherboard do you have?

Memory config as follows: It's the same for every motherboard with four dimm slots.

If i was getting ram i would get 2x 8GB Gskill 3000MHz or 3200MHz. Dual channel is good but speed even better.

Ryzen's infinity fabric interconnect between cpu cores inside the cpu is heavily reliant on memory speed. If you can part with your current ram or sell it, 3000MHz & dual channel will improve your system considerably.

ohh nice.. so i need to upgrade to Gskill 3000mhz 2x8 8gb for a total of 16gb? or should i go for a pair of 4gb? but i have a question regarding my current RAM? is it ok to use it as a single RAM for now?

Won't know until you try it. They'll either work without a hitch or they could have a domestic and argue and fight and cause crashes. So make sure it's possible to return the ram if doesn't work.

One of the reasons being is the IC chips on the ram pcb can change over time or made of different materials. Motherboards and Ram can be very sensitive to this. I've mixed ram before and has worked but have seen others here not so lucky.

2666 is still a good speed.

Ohh ok thanks why is it so complicated for the compatibility of every parts of the computer LOL..ok thanks for the answer im looking forward to buy a Gskill RAM i think i should go for Gskill Trident Z RGB (2x8) 16gb DDR4 3000mhz ram..will that be compatible to Ryzen 2200g and MSI b450 mortar? with PSU of 450w? TY
