Dual channel vs triple channel?

Which option would perform better In gaming 2× 4gb of ram or 2× 4gb ram + 2gb ram ??

First you most likely don't have triple channel, second you need the ram to be the same size for channeling to work (meaning 3x4gb), third dual/triple/quad channel makes no difference in gaming pretty much.

yea dual channel is more than enough for gaming, also the CPU's that those boards that use Triple/Quad channel also would benifit little from gaming.

now if you were doing video editing, rendering, something SUPER Memory/CPU intensive then yes you would benifit from them.

Part 2.4.2 of my Asus manual says this. "You can use different size ram modules."

2+2+4 would be 8gb, the two lower size sticks and 2gb of the larger will be mapped at triple channel 6gb tri channel.
The leftover 2gb from the larger stick will be mapped at single channel.
1+2+4 would be 7gb total, 3gb in tri and 4gb in single. Not that you would want to do that.

Or a 2+4gb will be 4gb in dual channel with the leftover 2gb in single channel.

If you are doing a lot of memory intensive work (BOINC primegrid), triple channel would be better
If you have a x58 socket 1366 or other CPU that supports triple channel memory
Same with my Asus and my EVGA x58 systems support triple.
