actually, it's like asking 2 hot girls or 4 ok girls, as the dual core usually has a higher clockrate. and what if you're a straight girl, do you start fighting with these new girls or do you become best pals?

Clock rate doesn't really matters when it's about the same speed, what matters most is CORES... More Cores Better Performance... Which would you get, Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core 2 Quad because they are kind of same clock rate...

Hello, I could firstly say without a doubt, Quad-core i7 are far better as they have 8 threads ( compared to 4 threads on the dual-core ) as well as larger L3 cache. However, in terms of battery life and price, dual-core will take the lead. Normally, MQ, HQ, are referring to the quad-core's and U and M is representing the dual core version. Normally, Quad Core i7 will have a starting price of 600$ as they are normally paired with dedicated class graphic processors.

This thread is from October 2012...

the 5th generation core i7 dual core is very good for gaming and very great battery life because of the 14nm. like the i7-5500u,i7-5557u,i7-5600u,i7-5650u.

do you think i should wait for the new quad core i7 or just buy the dual core?

It depend's on your preferences, if you would like something essential and good for daily use and moderate gaming purpose it should do fine, but if you wan't some futureproofing ( notice the some ) and you wan't some more processing power for video editing and such, waiting for the quad-core version or buying 4th generation quad-core's should be your best choice.
