I have a MSI FX610 notebook, model MS-16GK running W7 Home Premium x64
It has dual ATI video cards. Device manager displays them as:
1. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 v.8.733.1200 6/30/2010
2. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 v.8.733.1200 6/30/2010
There is no current updates available at MSI, (the manufacturer website). Most of their downloads are the original and outdated.
Anyhow I manually updated most of my drivers using the direct manufacturer websites for my Nic, sound card, etc. The problem is with my video drivers.
There is a new version for both of the GPUs listed above, but after installing the first choice, Mobility Radeon HD 4XXX Series, I had a BSOD during reboot. After resolving that and reverting, I installed the 2nd GPU drivers, Mobility Radeon HD 5XXX Series. It installed without issue and rebooted, but I could tell my screen aspect ratio was off. I checked my Device Manager and it showed the 2nd GPU, the 5470 to be installed correctly, though the 1st, 4250 had a yellow exclamation point.
How do I resolve this? I'm not accustomed to having dual video cards and my understanding has always been that they do not usually work together, so that is why its required to uninstall one or disable the other. In this case they are designed to work together, but how do you update them? Any one else with dual GPUs similar to this?
This is the outdated chipset/video card drivers listed on MSI's site:
ATI RS880M Chipset/VGA driver
Does that help, do I need to try to update the ATI RS880M Chipset, because if so, I couldn't find anything concrete at ATI?
Thanks
Mike
