I've been commissioned to spec and build a pc for 3D artwork rendering programs. I'm thinking Dual xeon, 2GB 800mhz ram. now one of my big questions is graphics cards, I'm thinking nvidia 6800 SLI's but can I find a dual processor dual PCIE motherboard, can I eck!
if anyone can help with specs, would be most appreicated. This person is comming away from a MAC to PC for his artwork, so I'd also like to know if thats a good idea.

Thanks
PM.

I think its a good idea but your gonna have to ask some of the professionals around here like crash.
I thimk there is a mobo for dual 3.6 prescott's or extreme edition's with pci-e but I'm not sure i'll get back to you

System Spec's:
Asus P4c800-E 3.2e @3.8ghz
1gb corsair xms pro2-2-2-5 aiw 9800 pro
audigy 2zs klipsch ultra's
74gb raptor wd 2000jb
pioneer 108 pioneer 120s

yep
here is one
I think supermicro is one of the best brands but i'm not sure
EM64T $371 on pricewatch

System Spec's:
Asus P4c800-E 3.2e @3.8ghz
1gb corsair xms pro2-2-2-5 aiw 9800 pro

74gb raptor wd 2000jb
pioneer 108 pioneer 120s

This is one expensive system the budget must be like 4G's
Anyway I think supermicro is the only manufacturer who makes their dual zeon boards with pci-e
here's a link
http://supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon800/
The three chipsets that support pci-e are e7525, e720, e725
if you want to look for a different brand
GOOD LUCK!

I believe the Supermicro X6DH8-G2 will provide what you need it retails at around £450 in UK, but be careful about case selection and memory selection, for the memory supermicro provide a list of branded ECC REG memory that they have tested with the board.
Good Luck

There are no boards out yet, for any platform, with the dual PCI x16 slots(At least not for seperate sale). ALienware sells prebuilt systems, but designed for gaming, not for what you want. Personally, for high end graphics, i wouldn't suggest that setup, but a Lindenhurst(7520) or Tindale board, ddual Xeon, but then a single workstation type PCI-Epxress x16 board. The 3dlabs Realizm series if you can swing the cash, but anyways, the best FireGL(ATI), Quadro(Nvidia), or Realizm/WIldcat(3dLabs) that can fit in the budget.

Thanks for the help guys, I will look into a dedicated workstation graphics card. I was kinda thinking there would be a hardware requirement difference between gaming and 3d rendering. My budget is around GBP2.5k non including monitors, so I think I should be able to stick a wicked system together. As long as it runs unreal torny too. :)
