I would like to use my monitor and my TV as a display for my friend to watch me play while hes on couch (I dont like our faces near each other). My GT1030 has a VGA port (which I use in my current monitor) and a DVI port that i would like to put the HDMI to DVI cable to. Will it work?

Correct. One to TV, one to monitor. In windows display properties, set the display output to "duplicate" (clone). You don't want to use "extend", since the image needs to be the same on both.

It would be best if both monitor and your TV used the same resolution.

Cables right? Not adapters?

Oh sorry. My GPU has a HDMI and DVI D port.

I got a VGA to HDMI for my monitor. And I will use DVI D to HDMI cable for TV.
