So do you need a beefy PC to run dual monitors? I plan to only use one monitor for gaming, the other one will be for multitasking.

I have a GTX 750, and a quad core 2.4GHz processor, the GPU has 1 DVI-I, 1 DVI-D, and 2 HDMI ports.

My current monitor is a HP 1080p 60hz, would I need to get a monitor with the same refresh rate? It's connected to my GPU with a DVI-D cable ( it has a port for HDMI ) would the new monitor also have to use DVI to work together?

Solution
Any two Displays at any two resultions with any display connector as long as there plugged into the same GPU will work. Yeah that simple.
you can mix and match which port types you use same with monitors refresh and resolution can be different. (I currently have a 1440p monitor on DisplayPort and a 1080p TV on HDMI.) Though people usually try and keep them the same to avoid weird problems. As for requirements not much for desktop use at all so you are covered there. Nvidia site says the 750 can handle up to three monitors at a time. Though I can't vouch for what quality level it will run games at in a dual or triple setup.
