I want to have a dual monitor setup but my main monitor is connected to my graphics card, which does not have a VGA port so I used a HDMI port. and the other monitor only can be connected with a VGA port, My motherboard does have a VGA port so when I connect the other monitor, nothing happens; or the monitor is not being detected. Help? I am completely new to dual monitors so I don't really have any idea what to do.

If you want one monitor to use video card and one to use CPU video then make sure your motherboard has cpu video enabled in the BIOS otherwise it won't use any of the ports on motherboard.

If it turns out you want both monitors connected by video card then you'll just need to get a cord that can switch from HDMI to VGA or DVI to VGA
