Hey everyone, so as the title says, I am using a dual monitor setup and I’m running into the “your rendering device has been lost” error in overwatch

My specs are as follows:
-Asus ROG 1080 ti overclock to +95 on core and +550 on memory (anything above +95 crashes even though my temp maxes as 65c)
-8700k @4.9
-16gb 3000mhz ram
-1080p side monitor
-1440p 144hz main monitor

The issue seems to be solved in one of two ways:
1- If I simply unplug my 1080p monitor from the gpu and plug it to the motherboard.
2- remove my afterburner overclock back to default.

Did I hit the opposite equivalent of the the silicon lottery jackpot with my GPU or is there something that I can do?

Solution
Are you SURE that gpu overclock is stable? What have you tested with, and how many times?
I ask, because I have a similar monitor setup to yours:
Main: Asus PG278QR(DP)
Side: Asus VG248(DP)

You've got a higher end card than me... I can't achieve any stable memory clocks over +400.

Latest drivers?

I don't play OW, but by any chance, is it one of those games that don't like overclocks? Sounds crazy, but it's a thing. Check the OW forums.
Your OC could be stable in Msi Kombustor, Heaven Benchmark, 3D Mark, Realbench, a bunch of games - you name it, but there are some games/apps that will crash with any kind of software applied overclock - the factory OCs appear to be exempt from this.
One particular indie racing game I play, Redout...

One particular indie racing game I play, Redout Enhanced, eventually crashes without fail. If I restore the clocks to normal, it runs along just fine.
Indie title, so it'll likely never get a fix for that issue. :s

Solution
I guess my overwatch is your redout enhanced, because I tested with everything I could think of and as far as I could tell it is a stable OC. 3Dmark several scenarios all the way up to extreme, different games, and Realbench, none of them failed.
The issue seems to also go away if I just unplug the 2nd monitor from the GPU but keep the exact same OC.

I assume I’m stuck with one of the following:
  • No OC & dual monitors in the GPU
  • the OC & one monitor in the GPU another in the Mobo
  • no Overwatch

I also haven’t updated my drivers since RTX released, I’ll try that and update here if it had any affect.

If the driver update doesn't fix it, just run the default clocks - no need to unplug a monitor for that. You have the OC profile saved in Afterburner, Precision X, or Aorus Engine, right?
Besides, these cards OC on their own(excluding memory) without us really doing anything; we just need to set a more aggressive fan curve.
