Solution
no... you dont increase capacity by adding more motors. you do it by shrinking the size of dot the read write head applies to the surface of the disk.

In agreement with and seconding COLGeek's "missing the point" comment.

I can just imagine the screeching, vibrations, and overall bad endings with respect to any two - motor hard drive failure.

A single motor can be bad enough.

2 motors would probably square the potential problems. I.e., 4 x.

This has nothing to do with advice. I am not asking for advice , I am asking if something was done or not.

The answer I was expecting is simple : yes or no . saying about what people are thinking "silly" and "makes no sense" and what ever is not a nice way to educate AT ALL.

you could simply say , it was not made because of this and that. without calling people ideas "silly" and "makes no sense".

this is one.

and two , to answer your question , about what to gain from it : more space that was impossible to have using a SINGLE box . most PC cases in old times had TONS of 5.25 bays from 3 to 12 ... and in older times 3.5 inch harddisks had to use Brackets to fit in 5.25 bays .. so in older days , making 5.25 dual motor harddisk was something okay and within standards.

and in older times when people used IDE cables , Raid was very rare in desktops ... they would still see two drives in slave master configuration instead ofone larger drive .

it is not impossible nor a silly idea ... it was not made , and the fac that it was not made doesnot mean it is a silly idea or makes no sense.

I just was preparing an article for the history of the harddisk and I asked this happened or not.

I never expected this kind of reply from tomshardware .. "silly" , "does not make sense"

Even if you have 40 years of experience . I was not testing your experience and I was not asking for advice and I was not insisting they made it . I just asked : yes or no.

trying to make my thinking look "silly" and what ever is not suitable with a 40 years experience at all , for what I know life experience teaches people to be less arrogant no matter what and nice when asked a simple Question. did it happen or not.

and I got my answer already and thanked you all , but it seems that ego does not want to stop right ?

I am saving this thread in case i get trouble from this reply. for Tomshardware Mods are very sensitive .

have a nice day and thanks to all AGAIN.
