no i meant this as a theory question i dont actualy have a 2 rail 12v psu i was just wondering if it would work. so if i had a psu with 4 rails but 15A each can i join two of them together to make 30A to run a hd 5770

yes and no. you could IF you put in line isolation / load balancing elements, like small resistors (I mean small value, but physically large to handle the current). they'll allow for some variation from one rail to the other without turning the whole thing into a 4-way arc welder. but it's a two-sided coin (as most are) since you'll have to burn up some power in those load balancing elements so a bit less voltage will reach the card. you'd need to set up a feedback loop to boost the 12V up to maybe 12.6V, or manually tweak it higher.

so i have a a psu with one 7A 12v rail that i what to run my hard drive on, i have 2 12A rails and 1 14A rail how should i distrobute the power between my cpu and gpu.

specs:
hd 5770
q9550

I used a power supply calculator and it said that my 365w (14A and 12A) was suffient to power my system just wanted somebody else opinion.

first, what's the power supply? would be nice to know how legit the power ratings truly are.
second, you'd need to know which connector has which rail / capacity.

in theory, sure 7A for the hard drives, a 12A or 14A for the processor, and the 12+12 or 12+14 for the graphics card WITH A CAVEAT that you either need to use some form of load balancing or check which rails aren't actually separate and are actually a common rail and use that for the graphics card.

so, what's the power supply? surely someone has done a review and teardown of it so that we can learn just what it really is inside.

The psu is a hp oem 365w (part number 379294-001) i think its made by wannien (i looked inside the power supply and saw that name on the pcb) and it has ltec capacitors inside it. I have another psu pretty much the same except its 240w (12A and 7A rails). oh and i know what cables are the 14A and the 12A rails, the 14A rail is just the cpu 4 pin connector and the 12A is the rest.

so do you think that the 365w psu will run a q9550 and a hd5770 and a 7200rpm hdd. I used power supply calculator and it said that i needed at least 240w solid 12v watts. The oem psu has 300 12v watts and minus 20% = 240w so i think i should be good to go no need to add the other 240w psu?
