Dual Single Channel RAM for Asrock AB350 Pro4?

Hi all,

I've recently came back from China where I bought 16Gb of KLEVV RAM at 3200Mhz. I thought that I bought dual channel 2x8Gb sticks, but it turns out that they're 2 individual 8Gb RAM.

I'm a bit disappointed in the purchase but I did get it for a steal (125$ for both) so I'm not really complaining.

The only thing I'm concerned about is regarding the compatibility with my Asrock AB350 Pro4 motherboard.

Will running x2 single channel 8Gb RAM on this board cause any issues? Will I even be able to run both at 3000Mhz at 1.35v or will I have to drop them to 2666Mhz at 1.35v?

Solution
Why would you run them in single channel? Did they not work in dual channel? It is recommended to buy your RAM as a kit to avoid compatibility issues. However two single sticks of the same brand and spec will probably work fine together in dual channel mode. I would at least try it if you haven't already.

If XMP is available try it. If not just manually set your ram to it's rated timings, speed, and voltage assuming both sticks have the same advertised speeds. If it doesn't work keep going lower until you find some settings that do.

I think Dunlop0078 has pretty much covered it.

Seems like you're misunderstanding the nature of Dual channel though. All it means it that there is a single DIMM in each of the two channels. So the 2 x 8gbs sticks, will probably work together. As Dunlop pointed out, it's best to buy a kit. But buying 2 single sticks of the same ram (providing they work) will still be in dual channel mode.

There is a another factor for top rated speed with faster dimms. If the DIMMS are Single/Dual ranked. This related to the IC's on the DIMMS themselves. Depending on the B350 mobo you have, if the DIMMS are dual ranked you may not be able to go above 2666mhz @1.35.
I can't determine if those Kelvv are Dual or single ranked. Make sur eyou have the most up to date BIOS for your ASRock B350, this will help compatibility when you put the DIMMS in.

Single modules are guaranteed to work as single modules not when used in multiples. Since they have never been tested together, you'll be the first to try them together.

Often such combinations cause the memory to no longer to be able to operate at rated specifications. You may be able to run them at a slower clock speed, relaxed timings and/or higher voltages. Compatibility testing is up to you with no guarantees.

Yeah I though I was buying a dual kit until I opened the box and it turned out to be 2 separate sticks in their individual packaging.

I'll follow all of your inputs, I'll do some tweaking on the BIOS and hopefully the motherboard will accept running them on dual at full speed and timings.
