Dual Xeons or Dual AMD Opteron w/ Dual Core Technology

which one should I get ...
It will be used for businees stockmarkets application and also use to run a video Bussines using sony vegas for video editing.

during they day i have multiple applictions open

Why not get one dual core opteron, and put it on a dual socket board. It should do the job nicely, and leave lots of room for future upgrades.

At any pricepoint, the opteron will outperform the xeon.
For some reason, Intel thinks they can charge a premium for thier name.
Getting a work station from a good quality OEM is never a bad idea. It's a lot of money, so it's smart to have the best guaranties.

Check the P4 Xeon %. It seems even smart people can fall for the marketing, or maybe Xeons are just that good (LOL).

Definatly do not get WinXP x64 unless you are 100% certain your hardware and the software you want will work with it. In my opinion Windows 64bit is not worth my 2 cents or yours let alone $100.

EDIT: If you really wanna try Windows x64 MS has a 180 day free trial of it so you can try it then buy WinXP pro.

Not much really. Windows x64 has limited hardware support and limited software support at the moment. One of the only OS's that takes advantage of x64 is Linux and it cant play games so its out of the question for most people.
