Dear awesome people,

Me and my best friend love playing games together on computers, however she 'only' has a macbook air and so the number of games we can play together is highly limited. I would love to just dual boot windows onto her mac but she doesn't have the available hardrive space. Hence I was thinking it would be a great Christmas present if I could install windows on an external drive and then run through thunderbolt or something.

Sorry if this idea is silly and wouldn't work, as far as I know thunderbolt is actually faster then SATA III which is what my hardrive is using. But I don't really know what other factors there are affecting this.

If this is an option it would be great if you had any ideas for external drives for me to purchase. Apple things flummox me and I have no ideas about compatibilities ect.

Thank you for reading and have a great day!
Pete

no, you cannot boot from an external hdd. however, in the process of installing windows, you can "mount" the .iso file onto the external drive. i'm not very familiar with macs, i think there's a thing called bootcamp that allows you to boot into windows on an apple machine. also, can't you upgrade the hard drive?

i did not know that.
MSolus, you should rather do what he says
