It should be fine but in rare cases you might have to...Just try it first...Would be good to know what motherboard you are talking about and your current BIOS on that motherboard...
4790 is a haswell refresh, they did require a bios update if the board came out before with the original haswell.
Find your motherboard maker and model number to find the right bios. Update the bios with the old chip or it may not even boot with the new chip if the motherboard was never updated to run haswell refresh chips.
