duron and geforce2 problems

I have a soyo sy-k7vta-b motherboard and a duron 700 processor. my video card is a geforce 2 mx. I experience random lock ups in several games and sometimes the sound will keep looping while the system is locked. Is this because of the compatibility issue between geforce and via chipsets that I have been hearing about? I have put back my old pci banshee card and so far haven't experienced any crashes. however I haven't had much time to test it out. I also experienced the same problem on the az11 motherboard which i sent back. I have the latest bios for my system and video card and the latest drivers from nvidia. also getting the lock ups with or without the 4in1 drivers. I really need some help here cause this is driving me crazy. if you need anymore info on my system let me know.

the problem is the bad kwality from nvidia, you have to be i bit lucky to buy one that doesn't have problems, if u shuold return your gf2 and trade it for a v5 your problems would be over, there are no issue's between via and grforce , its the shitty geforce card, it can maybe true the gf2 if a little few frames faster, but wath is the use of a faster graphics card if it brings nothing then trouble,
the biggest prob is the power those agp cards need, and the v5 has no prob with that at all , b'cose it has hois own power connecter to be powered directly from your power supply. its not all fps that counts, but copatibility and kwality of the product is something most people seem to forget. if your not so sure about the v5 horsepower, i suggest u take look at the gf2 vs v5 review at www.hardocp.com.

one thing for sure u have a great mb and a great cpu, so this is sure not the prob, what u also can try before returning ur gf2 is to download the via 4in1 4.25a, that can be found at the site of epox www.epox.com.tw

at first I thought my processor was bad because it was an oem. it seemed to crash everytime it got to 105-110 degrees. however i ran this program called hot cpu from the tweakfiles website for several hours, it said there were no errors found and nothing had crashed yet. just today my computer froze up while using my banshee card and i couldn't move the mouse pointer like the freeze ups i had been getting with the mx however it was after i exited quake 3 and it said demo32 illegal operation or something so I HOPE it was just something with the game and not my system. unfortunately my mx card is about 3 months old. i just upgraded from a celeron system which the mx card worked great with. my only choice is to sell this card on ebay which is going for 60-100 bucks when i checked the other day. I may hold off until the new nvidia cards come out and they make a bargain version of that chip like the mx. for a voodoo 5 on pricewatch cheapest is like 167. thats only a dollar less than my motherboard bundle with my duron 700 cost. the banshee seems to work alright for now so I might wait. only problem is the fan went out on my banshee and i don't think i will be able to find one anywhere that fits the heatsink properly so im leaving the side of my case open with a small desktop fab blowing inside. is there any good cards out there that actually work with the via chipset besides the voodoo5? they are just to much money for me. it says mine is the via kt133. I'm looking for something under 150 that hopefully i can go over to compusa or best buy and get so that if i have problems I can take it back.

Make sure your Video Card is not sharing any IRQ's with other devices, like your sound card for instance. To check if this is the case, do this:

Click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and click
on System Information. Click on the + next to Hardware Resources and click on Conflicts/Sharing.

yeah i checked that. im surprised more people aren't complaining about this problem. does anyone know of a mx card that actually works with the kt133 chipset? I guess I will have to buy a crappy voodoo 3. im tempted to send this whole thing back and buy a pentium 3 because I can't find a geforce 2 card that works. I'm not going to pay 200 for a voodoo 5 card. lowest on pricewatch is 167 and then im sure they will charge a bunch for shipping. I don't even wanna think what they would cost at a local store.

I have a new ASUS A7V, 900 athalon, and Geforce2 mx by Innodo3. After a bad mother board I finally got it all together and ran a video benchmark and it froze up. I hope I am not having similar problems. I have not got a chance to try any 3d games yet. I also haven't seen if I have the latest 4in1 driver.

the prob is just the crappy gf2 that's all , a v4 is a better replacement by the way or is you are not running anything else then 98/me u could chose to buy an ati furry maxx wich is an superb card for its money

all i have to say is lmao, V4 sucks and 3dfx is out of business.
ohh and I have had problems but i have been able to fix em
try latest drivers and a fresh install of windows using newest drivers to start, also make sure memory timing is right.

gforce 2mx is supurb card for the money and it doesnt require all that much power

I just noticed my motherboard is agp 1.0 compliant. the support site says i need agp 2.0 compliant. could this be the reason for the locks ups? if it is why would they even bother put an agp slot on the board if its not compatible with anything.
