DVD Drive connected via USB-SATA does not spin

Hi guys,

I took out my DVD drive from my PC and wanted to connect it externally. For this, I got an adapter from SATA to 2x USB 2.0 (because my PC doesn't support USB 3.0... Old mainboard, I know).
The DVD drive is recognized by my PC (Windows 10), and opens, closes, but: when you insert a disc, it does not spin, and so nothing happens.
There is a sound, which sounds like the drive wants to eject the disc again (that first sound when a dvd drive ejects a disc before the DVD comes out?). But yeah, nothing else happens.
I already checked the registry for lowerfilters and upperfilters, but I don't have them there.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Quite likely a power issue. USB2 ports can supply 5 VDC at up to 0.5 amps, or 2.5 W. A typical DVD writer will idle about 1.5 W, but when you actually use it to insert a disk and spin it up to read, it can use 15 to 25 W. So in that adapter with no other power source, the DVD unit will turn on and do nothing, but it will not be able use a disk.

Did this adapter come with an additional "power brick" that you plug into the wall and attach to the adapter base? If so, and IF that power brick can supply 15 W or more, make sure to connect it to the adapter. Then maybe your DVD unit can function.
