DVD playback

Hi, a nagging problem of skipping audio/video in DVD playback is really getting annoying now.
I am on the following: dual AMD 1600MP/ 1Gb DDR 2100 RAM/ LiteOn DVD (only device on IDE Bus)/ 2 SCSI hard drives/ Win2000 (DMA enabled on both IDE chanels)/ Geforce2 Ti 64 MD DDR ram/ Creative Soundblaster 128.
I am using a variant of WINDVD and during playback there are small intermittent skips in the audio/video. these seem to decrease when I give the program a higher priority but do not go away. Does anyone have and idea as to where to start troubleshooting this? Is there a CDROM cache value that i can increase?

Do you have Hardware Motion Compensation enabled in the program? Have you installed DirectX 8? How about your video card drivers ... are you running with the latest driver set? Do you have Service Pack Two installed?

You could try upgrading the program, or using a different software player.

I also recommend updating the firmware for the LiteOn DVD-ROM, if you haven't already done so.

There are some tweaks on this <A HREF="http://www.videoguys.com/Win2K_Tweaks.html" target="_new">page</A> that might prove useful for increasing the performance of the operating system, itself. This <A HREF="http://www.windows-help.net/features/bios-tuneup02.html" target="_new">one</A>, too.

Thanks alot.
I do have DirectX 8.x and SP2 installed. As for the newest firmware and Nvidia drivers..no. I will be doing that shortly if my DVD supports the firmware.
Anyway it's just annoying that i have to tweak a system like mine, when my friend with a DELL has perfect DVD playback with no tweaks whatsoever
