Hi,

After a few hours and many phone calls to Dell they finally sent me a
new NEC DVD player. This seems to have fixed most of my problems
having to do with reading and writing DVD's. There is still one
problem.

The drive will not recognize any of the DVD's I've burned on certain
types of DVD's. I burned these with Easy cd creator, the same version
I still have installed and everything worked fine in the past. These
are data DVD's, movies or regular CD's seem to be ok. When I load the
disk nothing happens but the drive changes in explorer to read CD
drive. Otherwise it says DVD CD-RW drive.

Any clue how to fix this. Is it my software or is there some hardware
setting worth changing.

Thanks much

After all this time there are still plenty of compatibility problems amongs
brands of media, burning software and the readers themselves. They may just
be nothing you can do.

Here are some ideas for you:

You didn't say which version of EZCD you are using. Only version 5 and
higher is compatible with Windows XP.

Whatever version you are using, you need to install the most recent update
to it.

Only media that has been 'finalized' (aka 'closed') will play reliably (or
at all) on a drive other than the one which created it.

If you are going to use third party software to write CDs and DVDs, you
should disable Windows' built-in burning software.
