DVD quality

I have a Sony DVD drive and a Radeon 9700 pro and a Cornea MP503. When I play a dvd, it doesn't look sharp, there are certain "blocks" of color in the background. I don't know if everyone has this problem and you're supposed to ignore it or not, since when you watch DVD's on TV you don't see the picture from a close angle. Someone told me "blocks" of color can mean low bit depth, I'm assuming this is a monitor problem, since it's an LCD.

Yeah, I think it's a LCD monitor problem. Have you tried to watch the same DVD on a CRT to see if it gives you the same result?
