DVD-Rom and CD-RW refresh problem

i couldn't get the windows media player to open and to play. how do i get it to work? i also have a problem with the "Devices with Removable Storage' Icons Missing"

In what way are you having this problem ?
i.e, I'm asking you that does this problem happen when and only when you insert a CD/DVD into your DVD/CD-ROM ? Or does it happen even with the files already stored on the PC ?
