DVI-D Single link cable to DVI-I Dual link port

I am considering getting a Dell U2412M (Res: 1920x1200) which has a DVI-D Single link port and comes with a DVI-D single link cable.

My graphic card Sapphire HD 4670 1GB (Yes I know! It's is very old.) has a DVI-I Dual link port which supports a max resolution of 2560x1600.

Can anyone tell me if I can connect the monitor and what is the max resolution for HD 4670 DVI-I single link?

I am unable to fathom this DVI thing with I's And D's and Dual and Single. Please explain.

Works fine. Will do 1920x1200 fine.

I think DVI SL tops out at 1080/1200. I'm not sure if it will support HDCP at that res. But as mentioned you'll be fine.

DVI is the port. DVI-D means it's Digital only. There is no analog "VGA" signal. DVI-I means it's Integrated. There is both a digital and analog signal being passed. SL and DL it literally the number of pins it has. SL (Single link btw.) has a group of pins missing right down the middle while DL has all the pins present. This is important because if you are missing half the pins, you can't transmit as much data. So DVI SL can't run 2560x1600. You'd need Display Port or DVI DL to run that.

I'm running a 1920x1200 screen off DVI-SL perfectly fine. You can't go much above that, though. 1920x1200 with CVT-RB has a pixel clock of 154MHz, max for DVI-SL is 165MHz.

Everything uses Reduced Blanking by default, and has done for years (except CRTs).

Thanks for the info 'Someone Somewhere' and '4745454b'. I guess my Core 2 Duo and 4670 can't manage anything at 1920x1200 except for movies and ancient games which might not even support that resolution. I guess I'll update my processor and motherboard first - after a few months (hard on cash).
