My monitor only has vga port. But when i connect the 24+1 DVI-D male to the gpu port there is no output. the ports avilable on the gpu are 24+1 DVI-d female , hdmi, display port. Please help,

Solution

Thanks for the solution.
However I live in India so i searched for an alternative.

will this work?
If this is the adapter this wont work.

This is a DVI-I to VGA adapter and works because DVI-I has the wiring/data for a VGA signal built in. DVI-D does not and requires an active adapter (meaning a circuit board actively converting Digital into Analog).

Yes that is the one I bought.

If I instead go for HDMI to vga option then what sort of adapter should i get?

Dvi-i is :::: :-:
Dvi-d is :::: -
The difference is in the 4x pins on the one short side with the bar. They carry the RGB analog signals, which in monitors is VGA. Dvi-d does not have the analog pins, it's digital only, so will not convert to VGA with a passive adapter such as you bought. You will need an active adapter, which converts digital to analog signals. This is true of any digital source, be it dvi-d, dvi-dual, hdmi or display port.
