This is my first computer build. This morning when we installed Windows 8.1 the monitor was up and running and all was well. However when we disconnected the entire system and moved it to its permanent space (3 feet away), the monitor, an ASUS VG243, starts up and now refuses to go further. It shows the ASUS screen, then the DVI NO SIGNAL comes on and then the monitor goes blank. The blue switch light on the monitor goes red and i guess the monitor sleeps. I tried to switch the input an it shows all the options and promptly goes back to saying DVI NO SIGNAL.

I am stumped. I've checked the connections and all is tight and well. Is the cable faulty?
I am 12. My mom is helping me with this. She is not tech savvy.

Solution
in the matter that my first answer doesn't do it entirely do this.
Sometimes during a move, the various cards in the computer will work a bit loose.
Unplug your computer from power outlet, wear a grounding strap (preferable),
then open your case and gently nudge all the cards and memory chips to ensure
they haven't worked loose. Then double check your connection from the monitor
to the computer, making sure none of the pins were bent, correct slot etc.
You can now reassemble the case, re-attach the power cord and plug into the
wall socket. Power up and see if that fixed your problem.

If this doesn't work either throw me another msg and we try option 3 😉
Heya there ! awesome that your mom is up for the task to help and assist you!

My suggestion is the following. take the dvi out of the graphic-card and put it into the DVI on the motherboard. Make sure the pc is turn off! 😉
If this does show life on the screen this could indicate that the graphic card might have died, or not plugged in correctly. So take it out and put it back in.

Try to use the GPU (graphic card) if it still doesn't work let me know.
