DVI Port not working

Hi. My system is:
Motherboard=Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H upgraded from ASRock H71M-DGS
CPU=Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3210 @ 3.2GHz upgraded from Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 @ 3.3GHz
RAM=4GB DDR3 DIMM
Display=Dell ST2220M full HD(1920x1080, 60Hz) LCD
OS=Windows 8 Pro 64bit
My Problem is that the monitor worked well on DVI port prior to upgradation but after the upgradation it doesn't work on DVI port rather it displays black screen and a message to change the resolution to 1920x1080 and refresh rate to 60Hz. While it works well when connected via D-Sub(VGA) port and settings are as recommended i.e. 1920x1080,60Hz.
Note: I'll like to mention that user manual of the motherboard says that DVI-D port conforms to DVI-D specifications and supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1200(the actual resolutions supported depend on the monitor being used) and that DVI-D port does not support D-Sub connector by adapter [I don't understand what they mean to say]
Now I want to know that my problem is due to (a) Faulty settings and of course how to correct that, or (b) faulty motherboard and if that is the case then is it possible to correct the problem using a graphics card.

May I ask a question.
when you did an upgrade of the motherboard cpu.
Did you do a fresh install of windows 8.

Or did you simply plug the drive that was running windows 8 to the motherboard and new cpu setup ?

The cable, monitor, Dvi port has not changed.
The board and cpu have, different chip set.



If you replace the board and cpu, you need to do a clean fresh install of windows 8.
For everything to function right.

Also be warned, changing a motherboard after windows 8 was setup on another may invalidate your windows 8 licence key since it is a major upgrade.

Windows 8 logs the hardware when it is setup first time with a board.

If the hardware does not match, it will invalidate the windows licence key.
Next time you enter it on a fresh install.

A form of piracy protection.

You may have to buy a new licence key off MS.

Or explain the situation and they may provide you with a new key to activate windows 8 with the new board and cpu you placed in the system as an upgrade.
