Hi all.

I recently picked up the original nintendo wii but unfortunately have no TV only a computer monitor. My thinking was that I could use this

https://www.google.co.uk/shopping/product/18209620787125796707?q=dvi+to+hdmi&sqi=2&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.62922401,d.d2k,pv.xjs.s.en_US.itihS6Tt4YY.O&biw=1920&bih=955&tch=1&ech=1&psi=0CAjU_rcOKnT0QWx54HgCw.1394811092860.3&ei=4SAjU_7pGcWqhAfpt4HQCw&ved=0CIgBEKYrMAA

and use this:

in order to play. Could anyone tell me if that would work? and also how would i go about connecting my computer speakers to the wii if possible?

Thanks

Solution
yes, the wii2hdmi adapter (and the literally hundreds of similar adapters) should work for exactly what you are looking to do. Simply plug it into your Wii, and then plug your monitor and speakers into the adapter.

For the audio receivers, just about every receiver made before the HDMI revolution had these types of connections, and many newer receivers still have the legacy connections. Just poke around and you should find one pretty easily. Legacy receivers loose value very quickly, so you should be able to fine a 5 year old high end receiver with these kinds of hookups for $100 or so.
Links don't go anywhere, please try again.

The wii has analog outputs by default, but there is an optional "HD Output" for the wii which will get you component 480p output. I would pick up one of those adapters, and then get a component to HDMI/DVI adapter to hook up to a modern TV or monitor.

Also, many audio receivers have legacy video inputs and can be used to translate composite or component video to HDMI, while upscaling it for you to 720p or 1080p automagically. Certainly worth looking into.

It's just a DVI to HDMI cable in the first link and second link is a wii2hdmi connector. Im quite a noob when it comes to this stuff if possible could you tell me if the audio output on the back of the wii2hdmi will take a computer speaker? Also could you link me one of these audio receivers sounds interesting.

Yes have seen one of these before unfortuantely I cant seem to find one anywhere and any I do find are very expensive. would deffinetly be the most ideal though

One more thing i was hoping you could answer is whether it will make a difference if I purchase a DVI to HDMI or VGA to HDMI. will the quality of picture be noticable if it is in HD anyway?

Well your source is not true digital HD to begin with. The console only outputs analog 480p signal which is essentially the bottom of the barrel of "HD", and many circles do not consider it as part of the "HD" standard (even though technically it is).
Essentially what the wii2HDMI adapter (and it's ilk) are doing is taking that analog signal, moving it to digital, and up scaling it to 720p or 1080p with a little chip inside. They are basically VGA to HDMI adapters already. The better the adapter you buy, the better the upsacaling will be, and the sharper the image you will get. It will still look like crap... but some will look less crappy than others.
