DVI to VGA Adapter Quality?

I've been looking online for a new monitor recently as I wish to setup my PC with dual monitors. My current GPU only has a single HDMI output which I'm using with my current monitor, and then two more DVI outputs for a second and third monitor. I was looking at getting the same monitor which I have now, so that I can have two matching monitors of the same size which would look a bit nicer together, rather than having two different monitors of different brands. Anyhow, my current monitor only has an extra VGA input and no DVI input, so I need a DVI to VGA adapter if I wish to use this monitor. My question is, will converting DVI (digital signal) to VGA decrease the image quality? I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I like having as good a picture as possible on my display. I won't be using this second monitor for gaming, it will just be as a secondary monitor for Windows programs and my desktop to be open in (an extended screen). I understand DVI is better than VGA due to its digital signal, so will the conversion make things worse?

Thanks

Solution
for a short cable there shouldn't be that much of a decrease in the quality.

the card itself send out the signal as analogue through the dvi port for the adapter. the adapter does no conversion.
