DX8a and XP

Stupid question, perhaps, but what version of DX comes with XP, and am I going to have any issues downloading DX 8.0a since its not specifically listed as working under XP? I would assume I'd have to DL the Win2K version.

i thought it was dx 8.1, in that case yes you will have some problems.

Well, after running "dxdiag", the version it lists as installed is 5.01.2600.0000. At least, the majority of the files listed under "DirectX Files" are thusly marked.

Alright, after running 3dMark 2001, it tells me I have DX 8.0! This all started because I was installing Grand Theft Auto 2, and it told me that I needed to install DX 6.01, and that I didn't have a compatible DX version on my PC.
WTF?

that game is an idiot u have 8.1 on ur system go get a patch for it and try again
