I thought I posted earlier but I can't find my thread so I am trying again.

According to my DXdiag, my computer has miracast. However, when I go to connect, it says it does not support Miracast. I want to project my screen from my PC to my TV through my Roku. The computer does recognize the Roku as an entertainment device but not as a projector. Screen mirroring is enabled on the Roku, and I know I can connect the two because I use a TV cast app on my phone that lets me control my YouTube channel from my PC. I'm not sure where the holdup is, and I'm not even sure where to look at this point. Please, help.

I'm not sure how much of this is helpful or necessary

Solution
Graphics driver still needs to support it as well as your WiFi card. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005492.html States the following
What is needed for Miracast to work?
Windows 8.1 operating system
PC with the following:
Supported Intel® graphics
Supported Intel® chipset
WiFi adapter that supports Miracast
Latest Intel® Graphics Driver installed
A display (e.g. TV) that supports Miracast or a TV paired with a TV adapter that supports Miracast
However other GPU's support Miracast also like the NVidia 1060 for example so it doesn't need to be Intel Graphics only.

Thank you for your response.

What kind of adapter? And why can I control my Roku's Youtube channel from my PC without it?

Thanks again.

Thanks.

I maybe wrong as it turns out as it appears that DXDiag may not properly detect whether Graphics drivers and WiFi drivers support it. Open a command prompt and enter "netsh wlan show driver" if everything says Yes than it should work. Do you have a Smart TV or BD Player or Micacast receiver? If so go to Settings / Devices / Conntect Devices and click on Add Device and see if your Miracast device shows up in the list (make sure device is powered up).

It will show up as something in device manager but it may also be hidden. Since the adapter isnt installed yet

And doing the above wont work, because as above you need a USB or PCI Widi adapter. And you'll also need something to plug into the HDMI port on the TV.

No such adapters exist atleast none that I can find. You can buy the adapter that plugs into your TV's HDMI port that is Powered via USB. If he runs netsh wlan show driver in a command prompt and it shows Wireless Display Supported: Yes (Graphics Driver: Yes, Wi-Fi Driver: Yes) Than WiDi should work with his laptop he will just need a Miracast/WiDi device to cast to. Eg. https://www.cnet.com/products/microsoft-wireless-display-adapter/ also some Wfi BD Players support Miracast like the Sony BDP-S3700 the Roku devices listed here https://support.roku.com/en-ca/article/208754928-how-to-use-screen-mirroring-with-your-mobile-device should also work.
I did the following Settings / Devices / Conntected Devices and click on Add Device and a scan detected someones Roku stick in my neighborhood.
I may pick up the Sony BD player above next week (not that I need another BD Player) so I can try it since it also supports DNLA.

Solution
In my case when i check " netsh wlan show driver " it says
Wireless Display Supported : No (Graphics Driver : Yes, Wi fi Driver : No)
What does it mean and what i need to fix it up.
Thanks in advance...
