Hey People, I’am looking for an xlr mic, i was thinking about a dynamic one since my pc fans are fairly loud, but do i have to be right infront of the mic for it to be able to hear me? I don’t want the lic with the boomarm to obstruct my view. Also, can you guys recommend me one and a audio interface/ mixer. I would like to use a voice changer in future I was thinking about Rode PodMic Dynamic Podcasting Microphone Black But i’am not sure because i don’t know if the dynamic or condensor will be better in my situation.
Can you guys please help me out?
Thanks! 🙂

Mic type will depend on a number of factors:

  • Noise environment
  • Input format (USB, XLR, etc)
  • Interface gain / SNR (for dynamics)
  • Placement preference
  • Budget
Given your fans are noisy, a dynamic would probably be best here, since setting up foam and corner traps is a fair bit of effort and extra expense (and isn't always possible).

What's your budget? The tried-and-true is a Shure SM7b (about $400 at Sweetwater) into a Cloudlifter CL-1 into something like a Focusrite Scarlett Solo, but that's a decently pricey setup.
