I am at the end of my rope. I've spent 5hrs on this today alone. I have TWC. I get 100Mbps service. I am trying to figure out how to get my wireless connection to get over 25Mbps.
PC Wireless adapter: 802.11n...which should be 300Mbps
Router: Linksys E3200, Firmware 1.0.05...should be able to handle 300Mbps
Modem: Motorola SB6141

Here is what I've done this afternoon.
If I connect my PC directly to the modem, I get 99Mbps on a speed test.
If I connect the modem to the router, and connect the PC to the router I get about 80Mbps per the speed test.
If I try to wirelessly connect, I can't get over 25Mbps. To me, that means it has to either be the router has limited bandwidth in 'wireless' mode or my wireless adapter in my PC is limited.

From the control panel network sharing center connection properties...
Network connection status-connection speed: 1.0Gbps
Wireless network connection status-connection speed: 54.0Mbps

I tried rebooting the router via the Router Control center, no changes to the speeds.
I tried auto settings for 2.4Mhz & 5Mhz
I tried manually setting wireless settings: 5Ghz, mixed network mode, 20Mhz channel width, channel 48
I tried manually setting wireless settings: 2.4Ghz, mixed network mode, 20Mhz channel width, channel Auto

I can't see to get the wireless router to go over 25Mbps...HELP

When I see that your speed maxes out at 54 Mbps, it makes me think that some component is stuck in 802.11g mode. Are you sure your WiFi adapter is N?

You clearly are getting the full speed from your ISP.

You should set the channel width to 40 MHz, not 20 MHz to carry the full amount of data.

Use a program like Vistumbler to look for wireless interference and to choose the channel that has the least of it.

How far are you away from the router? If there are walls and obstacles in the way, no matter what the gear, you will never get the full speed.

You may need to upgrade to 802.11ac gear for both the router, and the adapter to max the speed. Better yet, use an Ethernet cable that will be more reliable, or the alternate is Powerline networking.

Hi...
Yes, 802.11n is straight from the Device Manager...Wireless Lan Card
My PC is 6' max from the router/modem with no obstruction. The modem/router are in a cabinet under the TV and the PC is on a table less then 6' away.
I don't want a physical connection because it would be across the doorway in the room. I also have a PS3 on the 1st floor directly below the wireless router/modem.

I don't know what powerline networking means.
I'll change the manual channel width to 40 and check the speed again.

I installed Vistumbler. I'm on channel 1. I'm not exactly sure what to look for, but here is a quick rundown of my neighbors.
There are 4 others on channel 1: Max signal strength: 28%, 28%, 36%, 16%.
The other signals around me are on
11 (98%)
4 (44%)
6 (42%)
8 (15%)
9 (20%)
10 (16%)
2 (32%)

Powerline networking transfers data via electrical outlets and wiring.

You have four others on channel 1, as well as another on channel 2 that may be interfering with your transmission.

Channel 11 has some very strong interference.

Try Channel 6 and see if it is any better. (The only nonoverlapping channels are 1,6 and 11).

I suspect you may need some newer AC gear to get the speeds you want.

Okay, I see Channels 1 through 11 for the 2.4Ghz, and an option for Auto select channel width 20-40Mhz.
Network mode: Mixed...other options are Only B/G, B, G, N.

What do I pick for 5Ghz?
channel width auto, 20 or 40
Network mode: Mixed, A or N only
Channel options:
36 - 5.180
40 - 5.2
44 - 5.22
48 - 5.24
149 - 5.745
153 - 5.765
157 - 5.785
161 - 5.805

I tried channel 6 for the 2.4Ghz and the wireless speed is still only 25 at best. Do you have any suggestions for which AC router would be best? Kind of frustrating to me. Everyone has wireless in their house, so we're all competing for the bandwidth. I can get the full speed if I connect directly, but wirelessly I'm competing with my neighbors.
