Hello everyone, I recently purchased a E5 2687w to get a few extra cores over my old 4820k. But for whatever reason it does not seem to work, even though it's on the cpu support list for the Gigabyte UD3 x79. I run bios version F20 and it says It will work on F16 and over, so I have no clue what I'm doing wrong.

When I use the CPU everything works, and fans spin but I get nothing in the display. When I put my 4820k back in it works fine. I have tried clearing cmos a couple times, but to no avail.

I know it does work as I have seen many threads with people doing this on my exact board, hopefully someone can help me :)

Thanks

could be that the CPU is dead or some power issue, have you tried a different PSU? im not so sure about how much the xeon eats up but it maybe a lot.
Thanks for the reply, may try it if all else fails. Would be surprised if that's the problem though, the Xeon is only 20W higher.
