e5640 on lga 775

Because xeons have a different socket (LGA 771).

Some people over there sucessfully modded lga 771 xeons to run on lga 775 intel P45 chipset platform by modding the contact pin under the CPU

ok i've done it with the e5450 couple of times but the e5640 has hyperthreading also and for only 20 dollars.but i haven't seen any article on modding that one

That CPU is an LGA1366 Westmere Xeon, not an LGA771 Harpertown. The Xeon mod won't work on it since it uses a completely different socket/architecture
