I just receied a new vostro dell with an E8500 cpu and i was just wondering whether or not I would need a third party cooling method for Overclocking it to around 4.25ghz. I know that these chips run much cooler than the previous generation or pretty much anything out there but wasnt sure if I could stick with the factory fan or would need better cooling. I have searched the forum but could not find any concrete answers to this noob question.

The stock cooler that comes with the E8500 is puny! Half the size of the one that came with the Q6600. Naturally you'd have to get a better cooler to OC any.

I recommend the Xigmatek S1283, but watch your NB and/or mobo temps.

Most Dells don't come with the stock cooler. There is a gigantic one on my parents' Pentium D. Check out CompuTronix's Core 2 Duo temp guide and then make a decision.

I thought the Vostro's bios would be locked by Dell. XPS's are the only ones capable to my knowledge, and then only certain ones at that.
