Hey kirvinb, I gave that ramdisk software a go and it works very well for large images. Like if your making a poster. I wouldn't use more than 2gig out of the 8gig because you will loose performance in vista. It's almost like bolting the 2gig ramdisk next to the 2.8gig that photoshop is limited to. Once the memory in photoshop is full it flows over to the ramdisk and once the ramdisk is full it reverts to your second scratch disk. I tried to get some figures for you but it's difficult to asses because the performance depends on how much system memory is being used at that exact moment and how much of the ramdisk has already been filled. It works very well in any case and it's a free tweak.
As for the different drive setups I don't have a single drive lying around at the moment but I will be adding a single drive to my system next weekend. My boot drives and storage drives are raided via the raid card so it's not comparable to your setup. A friend of mine who owns a computer store is giving me a hand to setup mac OS on a seperate drive on my workstation. I am sick of Vista. It's nice for games but crap for photoshop. I just hope Windows 7 is better. It's going to be a virtual setup so I can still select Vista if I want to do some gaming. Anyway I'll be able to do a few tests then and let you know the difference between single and multiple drives.
Regards, Mal
