I will never pay for an online only single player game. I am boycotting this for the same reason I boycotted Diablo 3. This is the type of game I like to play on an airplane or a road trip. People don't always want to socialize.

Every once in a while I just want to virtually shoot something, or cut a virtual zombies head off, or nuke my neighboring virtual city without hearing someone bitch/moan or retaliate.

Typical EA fashion to not disclose exactly what free game you will get (or rough estimate of value) plus the fact that they are extending the deal until March 18!

So, to boost sale of the crappy DRM-infested game, they are trying to wheel in gullible people over a "free" game that likely will be some cheap $10 or les EA game no body wants.

Customers need to stand up with their wallets and not buy SimCity at all...Price will drop and eventually EA would be forced to change their strategies (although I doubt they would, just find new ways to squeeze more out of customers.

[citation][nom]w1zz4[/nom]If I was one of your custmer EA, I would ask for a charge back on me credit card. And since I'm living in Canada, my credit would have no choice to issue the chargeback. Take that non sense no refund policy...[/citation]

I'm in the US and NONE of my cards would debate a charge back. The problem is EA has said that if you do a charge back they will ban you from your entire origin account and steal ALL your games.

Granted I only have one game on origin and don't care about simcity. But this policy, their DRM, TOS, and and origin exclusive titles are insane

[citation][nom]soo-nah-mee[/nom]"We feel bad about your disappointment of your recent order of TURD. To make it up to you, we'd like to offer you a FREE TURD!"[/citation]

Seems you've already maxed out your "Like" thumbs at 20.

I resubmit your comment here as a quote so we can continue liking your comment.

Why it matters what game you get... as long as you may don`t even like it, or perhaps you can`t even play it:
What would you do if they see your system specs are low (games may send more things about your system than you think) and decide to throw you a free Crysis 3? Because you can`t play it without buying new hardware - and you may even don`t like it.
What if they give you a NFL/FIFA/other EA-SPORTS game and you hate those types of game (like me)?
Would that make you happy?
Even if those are not some Indie Games... they are not good for you either...
If they would give vouchers so you can get any game you like from them (or at least some discount on it) it would have been better !

Seeing as this occurs with almost every major online release (whether it be from EA, Blizzard, etc.), my guess is that this is a completely intentional method of operation for a game publisher. Putting out a half-assed apology and giving away a "free" game or game-time is probably MUCH less expensive than buying or leasing excess server capacity to handle initial loads. These companies have a team of people crunching numbers on how to best spend their money, and they've probably calculated that the strategy of having completely inadequate capacity for the first few weeks would generate that most possible revenue.
