I use a cheap headset (Sennheiser PC3) for gaming because I only have one friend that I game with and not so often. It plugs into both my front panel headphone and mic jacks. It has two cables, one which goes to each ear.
It was working absolutely fine until recently. I plug it in to start playing, I plug in headphones first and working fine (the device is: Headphones (High Definition Audio Device)) then I plug in the mic and the headphones 'disappear' (reverts to default: PHL 223V5 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)).
If I have just headphones plugged in it works fine. With both headphones and mic plugged in it only detects the mic. With only the mic plugged in it detects the absent headphones but not the mic.
I also tried plugging in just the mic jack and my other pair of earphones in the phones jack and the same situation. No headphones detected, no sound. Only the mic functions.
The only thing I had done since it was last working was delete my windows account from the PC and set it up with a local account (I was about to sell the pc before the city where I live got put on Corona lockdown). The headset was stuffed away in a drawer while I wasn't using it. I have since tried it with my windows account as another user, reinstalling the drivers and the last thing I have done is reset the PC with a new local account. Exactly the same problem every time.
What do I do? I'm in quarantine and my headset isn't working. I'm scratching at the walls.
This is my motherboard if it helps: MSI H110M ECO (2x USB 3.0 & 2x USB 2.0 5.1 Sound)
Thanks!
