What is ECC and is it important to have when buying SDRAM PC100. I have a Emachine that is a year old and I need some memory for it, I currently have only 32mb.

You'd want ECC RAM in a server performing important tasks and calculations, but for typical users, it's not required. Your system would probably (99.99% chance) use non-ECC RAM.

ECC is Error Correction Code, it does just what it sounds like. If it finds a problem in the data it's running it will fix it! You don't need it though, it's only used in servers and stuff like that.

Also, since ther's extra work involved in error correcting, ecc ram will actually slow the average system down.
