Edimax BR-6204 - Can't connect to internet via router?

Been using the Edimax wireless router for 18 months and it's stopped working. Noticed the connection dropping a few times over the last week and now it's just not working at all.

I have my main Desktop PC wired to the modem and then the modem wired to the router. This gives me wireless to my laptop and daughters bedroom PC, also the wifi on ipods and phones.

Now I can't even connect to the internet on my main PC if the modem goes via the router. I have to unplug the router and connect the PC to the modem directly to get a connection.

I've no idea what to do. I've tried other ethernet cables to connect the modem and the router but get the same thing.

I don't wanna fork out on a new router if it could be fixed simply enough.

Any ideas?

Try using the reset button (on most routers it's below a pinhole on the same surface as the ethernet sockets).

Also see if you can reach the router's setup screens via your browser using an ethernet cable between the computer and router. The IP addresss of the router and setup screen Username/Password should be in the literature that came with the router -- or download the user manual from the maker's support site.

What type of Internet service do you have? Usually you can connect only 1 device to a modem.

Your router is indeed broke. Degraded performance, and then it stopping.. is a sign it died. If your reset doesn't work, then replace it. No other options. You might consider renting one if you don't want to buy it.. I found out renting is much cheaper. 6$ a month and they will always replace it.. Versus 100$ for a new one and it dieng once a year on me..

Grumpy, no offense but what are you talking about..?

The 1 device he connected was his router, it should handle all his peripherals--infact it WAS handleing them before it died.

I'm pretty sure something isn't right with that statement. He has 2 wires running to the modem..? I haven't seen a modem with 2 ethernet jacks, see the problem there..? There might be some modems with it, but lets be real, I doubt that happened.

If you are a moderator on a technical forum, you should be aware that the person posting the question needs help, and there is a good chance he might say something wrong in his post and you should try to visualize it.. If this is some obscure modem that has 2 jacks, it would be a router or bridge or something, and not JUST a modem.

I did infact read the whole post and I looked past what he said literally, because I'm positive it wasn't literal.

Thoughts?
