Question Egpu trouble with igpu

Hey guys I am trying to install drivers for a 1080ti as an egpu. When i clean my nividia drivers with ddu then it brings up three microwoft display afapters as normal im pretty sure. Then i install a 1080ti driver not the igpu 1660 one. When it installs it will either give it a code 43 on the gpu but i will read it as being a 1080ti or it will bring up the 1660ti as a display adapter and have it ready without a triagnle on device manager. So what gets left is a triangle on the 1080ti with code 43 and for the 1660 it says its good to go. I font know how to get rid of the 1660 even when i unistall it and disable it.

Im using a laptop i hqve an external gpu it is clnnwcted through m.2 with a dock. Just the 1080ti on it and internal gpu in the laptop which is the 1660

can you go in the Bios of the laptop and disable the 1660 and wait and see if the PC will boot to windows? you might have a black screen until windows loads though or maybe in the bios you can change boot or priority of what graphics card?

I don't know if thats possible because i have never had such a setup but maybe worth having a look or try?

Yea i looked through my bios and it seems like I cant do that since its a laptop bios even when i go into advance mode. I will look again though.

It might be in or boot options or somewhere ?
That is if the bios has it of cause, yea laptop bios can be rather lacking in choices.

On my desktop PC in the bios it gives me the option what PCIe port I want to Boot/prioritise so just thought ya never know I would have looked around.

Other than uninstall all gfx drivers disconnect the PC/Laptop from internet uninstall and windows driver for the gfx, reboot PC/Laptop

then in system devices manually disable the 1660 which will be unknown dispaly addptor or just be using the standard windows display driver then try installing the 1080 driver doing all this while the PC is not connect to the internet.

have you checked to make sure the card is installed correctly in the caddy/case and nothing that might be causing the issue? have you updated the laptop chipset driver and bios from the laptops website?

Yes the gpu is correctly seated and the psu is aswell. The laptop chipset driver is something i am u sure of along with bios. I will look into that right now but i also noticed that ddu is saying that the 1080ti driver is somehow the same as the 1660 one?

when you download drivers that one download will have drivers for lots of models not just the 1080 amd does the same thing with there drivers.

Ok that makes sense lol so im looking on asus website and it does say there is an amd chipset driver along with nivida but that nivida one is for the 1660 I believe. So should i do amd chipset snd see what it does.

update the chip set and look if there is an update for the bios while your there.

K just did it nothing seemed to have happened that same display adapter didnt change with name and triangle is still there for adapter and 1080 and nothin really happened. So should i try ddu unistall nivida then restart download 1080 driver while having the internet off and see if it works?Now that i think abt isnt it impossible then because if that driver is for both isnt it always going to do the 1660 over the 1080.

make sure you download the 1080Ti driver version not sure if the 1080 is the same driver pack or not from nvidia? it might just be something as simple as that lol ?

although I thought you had already done that.

I did the ti version yea do u know whats weird as well i unistalled the 1660ti in device manager then i downloaded the driver for 1080ti thru device manager and it litterally almost worked but it didnt because it popped the 1660 back up

it should just install really if it's the correct driver at least thats what I would of thought, but I have never messed around with your type of setup before.

Can the 1660 be removed from the Laptop? if it can then you could remove it then boot back to windows then try installing the drivers for the 1080Ti

No it cant it is integrated into the laptop. Is there a way where i can like talk to u on call like discord about it and screenshare because its confusing.
