Eliminating multiple booting

I have a Chinese version of Windows 2000 installed in my
computer, which has two partitions in my local hard
drive. I want to upgrade to Windows XP. The problem is
that the screen told me that the existing Windows 2000 is
a Chinese version, and cannot be upgraded to an English
version of Windows XP. I procceded with the installation
anyway. The result is that I created multiple bootings
from Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Now I want my computer to boot only from the Windows XP,
and want my hard drive only to have one partition that
runs Windows XP. How do I elimintae the Windows 2000?
How do I eliminate the unwanted partition that runs
Windows 2000, and yet use its space to enlarge the
partipation that runs Windows XP?

Hi,

Removing Win2000 is as simple as booting to WinXP and deleting the Win2000
system folders from Windows Explorer. Start/run C:\boot.ini and remove the
reference to it from the [operating systems] section to complete the task.

Now, that was the easy part. To encompass the drive space into the WinXP
volume will require the use of a third party partitioning utility, as the
disk tools in WinXP are not capable of this operation. Window's drive tools
(any version) simply cannot non-destructively resize or merge partitions.
You can also simply use the free space as an additional partition if you
wish, there is no harm in that either.

Boot Managers and Partitioning programs:

Any of these can do the job. Only Partition Magic can merge the partitions
and save the data on both. The rest will require that you delete the
unwanted partition, then expand a remaining partition to encompass the free
space. This may be important to you, as the boot files (ntldr, ntdetect.com,
boot.ini) may be on the partition that previously held Win2000. Without
those files on the active partition, you will not be able to boot the system
normally.
