Hi I've been having a frustrating time trying to upgrade my emachines w3609 first I visited this link here:
http://processormatch.intel.com/CompDB/SearchResult.aspx?Boardname=d945gcl

The link was provided by intel so that I can find compatible dual-core CPUs for my motherboard, the D945GCL which I couldn't. When I contacted my manufacturer, emachines I asked them about the E6420 duo desktop processor and they responded saying that it was not compatible with my system. my bios is "Intel Corp. CF94510J.15A.0028.2006.1213.1629" and I can not find any available bios on emachines nor the intel website. When I googled for compatible processors with this system I saw a guy said that he manage to buy the E6700 and it runs great on his model, but I was a bit skeptic, after the response from emachines saying that the E6420 will not make my machine work at all, if anyone knows a compatible dual-core processor for the d945gcl that you think will work, please respond

Other specs:
OS(Operating system): Windows Vista home basic 32-bit SP2
Mainboard(Motherboard): D945GCL
RAM: 2GB DDR2 (max motherboard can handle I've heard)
Graphics Card(GFX): ATI RADEON HD 5450
CPU: Intel Celeron D CPU 3.33ghz LGA 775
-L2 CACHE: 512 KB
-FSB: 533 MHZ
-Instruction set: 64bit

Solution
I did pick up the Samsung 840Pro /128GB SSD and install it, with the graphics card....because the graphics card required a higher rated PS, I opted for a 550W power Supply.....which seems adequate. There IS some bottle necking of data, but with the overclock (a modest 10%), it seems to have helped. With Windows 8 loaded, it's pretty quick....I am able to get 60FPS hi/30FPS lo on UltraHigh settings in FarCry2 (Benchmark), which seems like that's crappy, but before.....with the GT220.....I would be lucky to get single digits here :) .

While it may seem overkill to max this board, I have really dug the upgrades all along the way over the years and find it satisfying that I can do hardware tweaks to extend the life of this rig. Although...
I suspect I have the latest BIOS spec, then.....my E6700 was plug'n'play, basically. I'm on it still. I'm running 3gigs of 667RAM....w/a 2gigDDR5 650ti nVidia card RAM addressed. Perhaps you have run into the 533/800 roadblock? Either way, I'm happy with the performance level of this rig as of now! Thanx for the update!

actually 'i missed a newegg sale 2 years ago , but ave noticed dual core chips on ebay and got the bug to upgrade the celeron gateway , my dual pentium @ 2.8 GHZ on an intel 945GC motherboard rocks running ubuntu 12.04.2 and i stumbled on this post and added more details to my previous post . my notes are jumbled between the gateway/emachine/ECS chipset 945 GCT and the intel board chipset 945 GCL with the max memory either 2 ,or 4 GIG ram , but with no budget and low prices on ebay and how these old machines still rock ,, what the heck , i could bump the intel board with a dou 2 core and see if the gateway will handle the dual pentium
or just try the dou 2 core 1st , specially since that e6700 has 4meg ram cache and rocks @ 2.66 ghz

a list of intel cpu's - digging into the chipset is possible
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors
E4700@ 2.6 GHZ , FSB=800 ; multiplier =13x ;@65W 2M cache
e6700 @ 2.93 GZ , FSB=1066 ; multiplier =10x ;@65W 4M cache and does work with the 945G chipsets
what are ur settings on the CPU '' and thanks for ur feed back , does ur mother board reach the FSB 1066?

I am running a 1066FSB CPU (E6700 C2D/10x/4mb L-2cache), but got the RAM timed in half @ 533mhz.....1:2 ratio this way. It's sufficient quick for most all web stuff------not the quickest for video rendering. I can O/C it w/ SetFSB in Vista, but Win 8.1 isn't very trusty there. In Vista, best O/C was 3.01Ghz in the Windows environment......in 8.1, closer to 3.02Ghz, but a little more forgiving. With software time issues in Windows 8.1, relative tweaked O/C granularity is uncertain. Seems the chipset dividers and CPU freq dividers are rather hard set, but not insurmountable. It's just the D945GCL mobo wasn't really designed for O/Cing. Any results goes against the recommended norm. I can tell you the E4700 C2D worked very well also. It's really the RAM FSB, ya know? The CPUs that go up higher have different microcoding to use DDR3 and the like-----well after this chipset came out. I personally would have preferred SATA III speed levels, but that too was after the fact. Hope some of that helps!

good to see this is still going i have a msi nvidia 8400gs stuffed in mine along with 2x2 gb of ripjaws ram now i did manage with a bit of complete blind luck stick an overclocked celeron into this tank and i do mean oc pulling quite hard a tech junkie friend did it for me so far i can play crysis amazingly well......14fps but it still works now i did read above and did find a bios for your config it will be on the worlds most resilient torrent site if you catch my drift and will be a magnet so utorrent will be needed but repost if you have ?s

Nah man, i coudnt find it. If you found it could you send me the link via private message?
