I'd like to know, what is the official way of executing email file with format *.eml?

Another question is, is saving an email as *.eml the best way to preserve its information?

Would there be any information lost?

nothing. Just preserving as much as information of an email including sender and receiver and date of sends etc

Generally, whatever your email client is.
Outlook, for instance.

.eml is just the file extension. You can assign any relevant application for a particular extension.

"Late entry" - Powershell may be helpful.

I am in the process of culling out photograph attachments from quite a number of family emails (Outlook).
